Looking for parents, siblings and children of
Philip Bailey b. 1760-1770.
Philip was in NC 1792 or 1794 depending on
which census is correct when his daughter Lovecey was born. Can find no record
of him in NC.
Next shows up in Houston County, Ga. 1828. In
1830 Houston census, but cannot be found after that.
His sons Bryant b. 1806 married to
Teresa Johnston b. 1808, John and Thomas b. between 1800-1810 moved to Randolph
County, Ga. ca 1838. Bryant and possibly John migrated to Winn Parish, La. ca.
1857. No record of Thomas after the 1850
Randolph County census.
There is a record of the purchase of land by a
John Bailey in Winn Parish in 1858, but no further records of John that I can
locate.
Lovecey (spelled several ways) first married
Joseph Wood who died before 1830 in Randolph County and then William
Castleberry. She and William moved to Florida.
The children of Bryant, my gggf, were Quincey
P. b. 1830 who was killed in the War, Berrien F. b. 1832 (my ggf) who married
Lucy Caroline Teagle McBride, Martha b. 1836 who married first James Arrington
who was killed in the War and then Benjamin Lovett. Martha and Benjamin moved
from Winn Parish to Sabine Parish.
Children of Berrien F. and Lucy were Crockett
b. 22 Aug 1889, d. 14 Oct 1889"; George Christopher b. 06 Jan 1879, d. 07
Dec 1894; Berrien "Buddy" b. 15 Jan 1870, d. 03 Jan 1957; Bryant W. b.
12 Jul 1868, d. 25 Feb 1961; Buford Lee (my gf) b. 1872 d. 06 Aug 1952; and
Jesse Maude b 1874 d. 08 Feb 1961 who was married to Tom Long.
Bryant W. Bailey b. 1868 was quite prominent
in Winnfield, La. Was manager of La. Oil Company, the first oil company formed
in La. Owner of a hoteland newspaper, president of a bank and sheriff of Winn
Parish.
In researching Bryant I discovered that
he registered to vote on one occasion as a Socialist. Further research revealed
that every member of the Winnfield City Council ca. 1900 also registered as
Socialists. Bryant was instrumental in the
formation of the Populist Party and unsuccessful ran for Congress on that
ticket.
