Meetings

Starting in January 2008,  the regular meetings of the St. Tammany Genealogical Society are being held on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00 AM to approximately Noon in the meeting room of the Covington Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library (STPL).  Meetings are normally not held during the summer months of June, July and August.   However, an informal social gathering (picnic) is typically scheduled for June and a field trip to a local library is often scheduled during July or August.

The St. Tammany Genealogical Society sponsors genealogical workshops at the Covington Branch Library when there is sufficient interest.   The workshops focus on using the computer and the Internet to conduct genealogical research and to document the results.

The STGS Regular Meetings include a Genealogy Q & A session on important current genealogy topics when no speaker is scheduled.   Reservations are not required, except as noted.

    Ann Wakefield, of the Notarial Archives of New Orleans will discuss the role of the archive, its holdings and its role in research.  The archive boasts a number of historical primary documents in the collection. Among these are originals that were notarized by citizens such as Almonester, Marigny de Mandevillle to briefly name a few.ame a few.
