BY-LAWS
of
ST TAMMANY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

(Original  1996  Version)

 

ARTICLE 1  -  NAME

1.  The name of this corporation is ST. TAMMANY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, and was incorporated on __________, 1996 under the laws of the State of Louisiana, as a non-profit corporation in accordance with the laws of the state of Louisiana  (Chapter 2, Title 12 of Louisiana Revised Statutes).

 

ARTICLE  II  -  OBJECT

1.  The goals of this Society are to encourage the study of genealogy,  to foster the maintenance of family trees,  to create interest in the genealogical records in and around St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana,   to locate and make known the several locations at which genealogical records are available,  to preserve, catalogue (and publish when desirable and possible) records of a genealogical nature where such may be of interest to its members, subscribers and students of genealogy, and to bring to the attention of the public in general the necessity of preserving records of a genealogical nature for the benefit of posterity.

 

ARTICLE  III  -  MEMBERSHIP

1.  The dues shall be $10.00 annually for one person;  $15.00 annually for a family (husband & wife).  Membership shall be by calendar year.   Dues shall be payable in January of each year.   New members shall pay their dues when they join / or are accepted.

2.  The membership of this Society shall be of one classification and shall be open to persons who show and exhibit genuine interest in genealogical research and the preservation of genealogical material.

3.  Non-members are welcome at any regular meeting, and are encouraged to give the secretary full name and address, telephone number and a list of family names being researched.

4.  A member may be dropped from the rolls for cause,  after appropriate hearing by the Board of Directors, and an affirmative vote of the membership.

5.  Any member who has not paid dues by the February meeting will be contacted by the Treasurer and if dues are not paid by the March meeting, the member shall be automatically dropped, unless good cause can be made for delayed payment.

 

ARTICLE  IV  -  OFFICERS

1.  The officers shall consist of the President,  Vice-President,  Recording Secretary,  Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer.

2.  The January meeting shall be designated to the election of officers, who will take office at that meeting for their term of office.   Nominations will be made from the floor.  All voting will be done by ballot.

3.  The term of office for all officers shall be one year.   Officers may be re-elected, if they so agree to serve.

4.  An affirmative vote of the majority of the members present at a regularly scheduled meeting is needed to elect officers.

5.  The President shall preside at all meetings of the Society and the Board of Directors shall represent the Society at all times,  may appoint any committees deemed necessary,  and shall perform all other duties pertaining to the office.

6.  In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall perform the duties of the President.

7.  There shall be two signatures required on all checks.
